It is believed that Reiki was initially discovered in Tibet several thousand years ago. Through
the years, a system of sounds and symbols for the universal healing energies was developed
in the Orient. This single root system of sounds and symbols was utilized within various
healing practices across many different cultures. Unfortunately, this discovery was lost and
forgotten through the passage of time.

In the mid-to-late 1800's, Dr. Mikao Usui, a Christian scholar and educator in Kyoto, Japan,
rediscovered the root system and dedicated the next twenty-one years of his life to the study
of the healing phenomena that had been utilized by some of the greatest spiritual leaders in
history. Through his studies, Dr. Usui discovered ancient sounds and symbols that are
directly tied to the human body and the nervous system, which hold the potential to activate
the universal life energy for healing.

Dr. Usui called this healing tool Reiki and started teaching and practice throughout Japan
until his death in the mid 1890's.

The practice and art of Reiki has passed through several Grandmasters of Reiki such as Dr.
Chujiro Hyashi, Hawayo Takata, and Phyllis Lei Furumoto.

While there are many forms of Reiki currently in practice, the two primary forms are the "Usui
System of Natural Healing" and the "Radiance Technique."

The Usui System, which is what I practice, balances and strengthens the body's energy,
promoting the body's natural ability for self-healing.
